Den medicinske anatomi er læren om menneskelegemets opbygning.Det er et af de store grundfag i lægestudiet og giver forudsætninger for senere eller samtidig undervisning i en række andre fag, bl.a. fysiologi, patologisk anatomi og de fleste af de kliniske fag.

Anatomien inddeles i den makroskopiske anatomi, som omfatter de strukturer, der er synlige med det blotte øje, og den mikroskopiske anatomi(cytologien og histologien), som behandler cellernes og vævenes struktur.

Anatomi kurset i starten af studiet omfatter bevægeapparatets anatomi integreret med centralnervesystemets og sanseorganernes anatomi.
Stoffet behandles systematisk, topografisk, funktionelt og praktisk, og det tilstræbes gennem hele kurset at knytte forbindelse til stoffets anvendelse, bl.a. gennem indføring i elementære undersøgelsesmetoder og biomekanik, ligesom der lægges vægt på fremstilling af den normale anatomi med klinisk relevante billeddiagnostiske metoder.

Hovedvægten i behandlingen af den topografiske anatomi ligger i forbindelse med dissektionskurset. Som en særlig del af anatomien behandles organismens udvikling fra det befrugtede æg under fosterudviklingen (embryologien).

Anden del af Anatomi kurset er undervisning i den makroskopiske og den mikroskopiske anatomi af bryst- og bughulens organer (splanchnologi og speciel histologi), og i den specielle histologi af hovedets og halsens organer, samt i hele embryologien.

Undervisningen i de forskellige organsystemer er koordineret med den sideløbende undervisning i fysiologi og biokemi.

Embryo Images
Embryo Images Normal and Abnormal Mammalian Development is a tutorial that uses scanning electron micrographs (SEMs) as the primary resource to teach mammalian embryology. The 3-D like quality of the micrographs coupled with selected line drawings and minimal text allow relatively easy understanding of the complex morphological changes that occur in utero. Because early human embryos are not readily available and because embryogenesis is very similar across mammalian species, the majority of micrographs that are utilized in this tutorial are of mouse embryos. The remainder are human.

Three Swiss university departments of morphology (see Credits page) have co-operated to produce a web-based course in human embryology for medical students at the preclinical stage of their education. Web-based training (WBT) lends itself admirably to the teaching of embryology, which forms an important part of a medical students' education. Moreover it permits the display of movement and threedimensionality, both of which are necessary to understand the process of development.
