"ABC of Sepsis", Wiley-Blackwell
The importance of early prevention and treatment of sepsis has never been greater. In the UK alone sepsis contributes to more deaths than lung cancer, from bowel cancer and breast
cancer combined, and approximately one third of patients who suffer from severe sepsis die. The ABC of Sepsis provides a much needed introduction and an invaluable aid in the
increasing efforts to reduce hospital infection and improve patient safety.
As growing numbers of junior medical staff experience emergency medicine, critical care and acute medicine as part of the Foundation Programme, there is an increasing need to
develop the skills required to treat severe sepsis. The editors are involved with the Survive Sepsis campaign - developed to improve the recognition, diagnosis and treatment of
sepsis - and are perfectly placed to guide junior medics, GPs, specialist nurses, critical care nurses and primary care staff through this core aspect of acute medicine.

imaging manifestations of common community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonias and various infections seen in immunocompromised patients.
The book contains over 400 images and many tables that summarize the characteristic manifestations of bacterial, mycobacterial, fungal, and viral infections. Over 50 full-color
illustrations show histopathologic or microbiologic features that correlate with imaging findings.
"Infections Causing Human Cancer", Wiley-Blackwell
In the 1970s, the author of this work and his co-workers initially found Epstein-Barr virus DNA in Burkitt’s lymphomas and nasopharyngeal cancer and made the connection between HPV
infection and cervical cancer. It was also during this period and subsequently that scientists all over the world discovered tumor-inducing bacteria, viruses, parasites, and
protozoa, opening up entirely new prospects for the prevention and treatment of infection-induced cancer by vaccination.
Adopting a unifying concept and a consistent structure for the individual chapters, Professor zur Hausen provides a thorough and comprehensive overview on cancer-inducing infective
agents — viruses, bacteria and parasites — and their corresponding transforming capacities and mechanisms. He does not cover the structure and molecular biology of the agents
presented in great detail, but rather concentrates on those aspects that link the respective agents to human oncogenesis. As such, an extensive bibliography after each chapter
permits further studies on the subject.
With a chapter on Helicobacter written by James Fox and his colleagues at Harvard University, this is an invaluable and instructive reference for all oncologists, microbiologists
and molecular biologists working in the area of infections and cancer.
"Infectious Disease: Pathogenesis, Prevention and Case Studies", Wiley-Blackwell
The study of infectious diseases has undergone major changes since its infancy when it was largely a documentation of epidemics. It has now evolved into a dynamic phenomenon
involving the ecology of the infectious agent, pathogenesis in the host, reservoirs and vetors, as well as the complex mechanisms concerned in the spread of infection and the
extent to which this spread occurs. Rapid globalization has led to unprecedented interest in infectious diseases worldwide and their effect on complex population dynamics including
migration, famine, fire, war, and terrorism. It is now essential for public health officials to understand the basic science behind infectious disease and, likewise, students
studying ID must have a broader understanding of the implications of infectious disease in a public health context as well as clinical presentation and prevention. The clear demand
for an integrated approach has led to the publication of this text.
"Infektionssygdomme og mikrobiologi", Akademisk Forlag
Infektionssygdomme er en moderne lærebog, som tager udgangspunkt i patienten med infektion.
Ud over den nødvendige, faktuelle viden præsenterer den læserne for sygehistorier, spørgsmål til selvevaluering og en række ”nøglepunkter”, der fremhæver vigtige kliniske aspekter.
Bogen består af to dele. Del I bevæger sig fra feber til pandemier og bioterrorisme – del II omfatter mikrobiologiens mere teoretiske aspekter – fra infektionsprofylakse til brug
